On Thursday, June 24th 2021 at 1009 hours Deputy Quincy Cannon responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Windsor Spring Rd just south of Tobacco Road. Upon arriving on scene and making contacting with the driver of an overturned vehicle, Deputy Cannon observed that the driver was missing his left arm and was losing a lot of blood. Deputy Cannon quickly returned to his vehicle and retrieved a tourniquet from the patrol car. Deputy Cannon was able to successfully apply the tourniquet to stop the bleeding prior to helping the driver out of the overturned vehicle. A follow up was conducted with AUMC on the driver on June 29th 2021. The medical staff was not able to re-attach his arm but he is now up walking around and is doing good with the recovery. If it was not for the quick decision to retrieve a tourniquet from the patrol and properly apply it above the amputated arm, I believe that the driver would have died due to this significant life-threatening injury.

The dedication, compassion and quick thinking that Deputy Cannon exhibited this day in saving a life makes him a valuable asset to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Augusta Richmond County.

On May 18, 2021, Deputy Graham, along with Deputy Devante Brown and other units responded to Ridge Rd. in reference to a suicidal subject with a gun.  Deputy Brown arrived on scene first and made contact with the subject, who was sitting on his patio with a handgun in his lap.  The subject did not threaten to shoot anyone, however, he stated that he was determined to end his own life that day.  Deputy Brown and Deputy Graham engaged the subject in conversation.  At times, the subject responded amicably to the interaction.  However, during the course of the call, there were several moments where the subject put the gun to his chest and had his thumb on the trigger.  All involved held their composure and were able to talk the subject down.  Deputy Graham contributed to bringing the subject back from the brink by relating personal life experiences - some that would have been difficult for anyone to share.  The subject began to feel comfortable and relaxed.  An opportunity presented itself for less-lethal force to be used, and after deputies deployed Tasers, the subject was detained and later transported to AUMC.  Deputy Graham treated the subject with respect and dignity, as well as showed empathy for the pain he was suffering. This helped to contribute to the peaceful resolution of this situation.

Deputy Graham is a credit to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Augusta Richmond County.

On May 20, 2021, Deputy DiFelice , along with Deputy Jamyle Grant responded to 3017 Old Lodge Rd. in reference to a domestic dispute. While on scene deputies were advised of the subject being outside of the residence.  Deputy DiFelice observed the subject at the rear of the residence with a shotgun.  Deputy DiFelice took cover with his firearm drawn, and Deputy Grant took cover near a vehicle with his firearm drawn. Deputies began speaking with the subject in an attempt to get the subject to put down the shotgun. This dialog continued when Deputy Grant asked the subject to calm down and to have another cigarette. The subject began to walk towards the vehicle in the driveway when Deputy Grant transitioned from his firearm to his taser. Deputy Grant was able to deploy his taser while other deputies were able to get the subject in custody. Through the efforts and training of Deputy Grant and Deputy DiFelice, they were able to control the situation, and resolve it with less lethal force.

Deputy DiFelice is a credit to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Augusta Richmond County.
