Deputy Larry Watkins received a Commendation Plaque and Lifesaving Uniform Ribbon. On April 18, 2013, at 2 p.m., Deputy Watkins was notified by a witness that someone had just entered a home on Druid Park armed with a knife with the intent to kill the person in the residence. Deputy Watkins called for back-up but immediately proceeded into the residence. Upon entry, the suspect was on top of the victim and was attempting to stab him. Deputy Watkins transitioned from his duty weapon to his Taser and was able to arrest the suspect without incident even though deadly force would have been justified. Deputy Watkins was commended by Sheriff Roundtree for his immediate response even in the face of danger as well as the actions he took in order to save a life.
