Field Operations

The deputies of the Field Operations Division are the public face of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. These dedicated men and women put their lives on the line on a daily basis to protect and serve the residents of Richmond County. The division is commanded by a Chief, a Major and two Captains.

This division operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and its deputies are the first responders to crimes committed within the physical boundaries of Richmond County. Field Operations deputies provide emergency response in life threatening situations and non-emergency assistance to a variety of criminal, traffic, medical and civil matters as County.

The Field Operations Division of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is comprised of two precincts - the North and the South. Each of the precincts is commanded by a precinct Captain. The precincts have four patrol shifts each, plus the various Special Operations Units housed within that precinct. The uniformed patrol shifts operate on two, 12-hour shifts. These shifts are commanded by one Lieutenant assisted by two Sergeants.

There are a total of 237 certified law enforcement officers working either a permanent day or night shift. Each deputy on the shift is assigned a specific beat to patrol. The beat assignments are not rotated. This allows the deputy to become familiar with his/her beat, and the people who occupy it. Using this format, the Sheriff feels the department offers the best means of providing the entire county with the security and protection it deserves.
